The DIVA Center, in addition to promoting regional two and three-dimensional art, supports those individuals who work with time-based media.
Time-based media describes projects using film, video, sound and computing technologies, including digital and analogue electronic media, performance and installation.
The DIVA Media Arts Committee, often called the MAC by members, began as the 2nd Friday Film Forum nearly two years ago. That group, which originally screened independent films once a month, quickly grew into the current 13-member committee that is actively dedicated to presenting a diversity of events including: independent film from emerging film makers, experimental video and music performances, workshops by visiting artists, and annual events like the Open Lens Film Festival, and the Improvised Music and Moving Image Festival.
DIVA CENTER AS VENUE
The DIVA Media Art program fills a niche, a need that no other resource in Eugene does.
It provides a venue for artists working in newer media AND it provides audiences in Eugene with experiences they can't get anywhere else locally.
Traveling artists have told us that for a long time there has been "nothing between northern California and Portland" until DIVA.
Artists talk and we're gaining a regional, and even national, profile as destination for film and video
The Center has recently purchased a professional theater quality video projection system and screen. Our facility comfortably seats 65 people and up to 90 with standing room only. If you are interested in bringing your media event to the DIVA Center facility contact for more information.

The DIVA Media Arts Committee:
- Has staged an average of 5 events per month
- Has presented 102 events since it was formed
- Brings 20-90 people per event downtown to see films and enjoy media art events
DIVA's mission is to be a catalyst for the visual arts in downtown Eugene. To that end the Media Arts Committee has endeavored to bring a wide variety of unique events to the Center including films that reflect and illuminate the experiences of non-mainstream artists, and their communities. This effort brings people downtown to programs that can only be experienced at the DIVA Center.
DIVA has gained national press attention for it's film and media events in publications like the Wall Street Journal and Sunset Magazine, putting Eugene on the map for visual arts
The DIVA Media Arts Program started with a handful of film enthusiasts, a borrowed projector, an a/v cart, and a blank wall that served as a screen. Now, thanks to a supportive community, the Center has a new ceiling - mounted digital projector and a professional quality screen. With a core of dedicated volunteers, who make events happen, the future looks bright for time based arts at the DIVA Center.
BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
As we build for the future we look to the community for support. To this end we seek assistance with the following:
• Financial support for visiting artists
• Film rental/guarantee fee budget
• Support for youth media activities
• Equipment for media workshops
• Theater quality sound system
• Advertising budget support
The Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts (DIVA) is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. Tax-deductible contributions for the Media Arts Program can be mailed to:
